A Memorable Escape: Exploring Coorg with Friends

Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery, some fresh air, and the companionship of close friends to create memories that will last a lifetime. That's precisely what my friends and I felt when we went on a thrilling excursion to Coorg, a picturesque hill resort in Karnataka, India's Western Ghats. Follow along as I recount the highlights of our unforgettable journey to Coorg.

Day 1: A Picturesque Arrival

Our journey began at night from Bangalore to Coorg, a roughly six-hour road trip through lush greenery and winding roads. As we entered the Coorg district, the landscape transformed into a mesmerizing canvas of coffee plantations, mist-covered hills, and dense forests.

The beauty of Coorg had already cast its spell on us.

We checked into our cosy Air BnB, which was flanked by coffee plantations. Our hosts were warm and the aroma of freshly roasted Coorg coffee greeted us with open arms. We opted to explore our surroundings after a little recharge. To go to the bus stop, we went through the lush coffee plantation. We had had enough of waiting for a good 20 minutes and decided to take an auto to Madikeri town. The journey was hypnotic and breathtaking. We went directly to hire a scooter, and after that, our next stop was to eat a wonderful lunch at @Momos The Market. We ate a lot of Thukpa soup and Momos. Coorg is synonymous with coffee, and what better way to understand the coffee-making process than to visit a plantation? We walked through the lush green coffee bushes, learned about the different varieties of coffee, and even had a chance to pluck some coffee berries. The tour concluded with a steaming cup of freshly brewed coffee that tasted unlike any we had ever tried. Then we headed to Madikeri Fort, but before we could begin touring, it began to rain like cats and dogs. We had to stop exploring there and return to our accommodation because it was getting really cold.

Day 2:Waterfalls and Culture

On our second day, we decided to explore the natural wonders of Coorg. Our first stop was Abbey Falls, a picturesque waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. The sheer force of the cascading water was a sight to behold. We cooled off in the mist created by the falls and took more photographs to capture the moment. Our second stop was the Namdroling Monastery, the largest Tibetan settlement in South India. The sight of the golden statues and vibrant prayer flags against the backdrop of the serene landscape was truly breathtaking. We spent some time in contemplation and offered our respects before continuing our adventure. We headed back from the Monastery to our Airbnb. We decided to have some beverages and spend the night under the stars.

Day 3:Adventure

Mandalpatti is located near the picturesque town of Madikeri in Coorg, Karnataka. The nearest major city is Bangalore, approximately 250 kilometres away. To reach Mandalpatti, we took our scooty to the trekking base camp, which is about 15 kilometres away. The journey itself is a scenic delight, with winding roads cutting through lush coffee plantations and mist-covered hills, from the base we got a jeep to take us to the viewpoint which was about 22 Kilometers. OMG! The entire offroading that we did was one hell of an experience and adventure. There was no road to be accurate but rocks through which the jeep was just gliding. Our entire route was covered with white clouds making it impossible to see anything. The real reward of the Mandalpatti trek comes when you reach the viewpoints. The first viewpoint offers a stunning panorama of the Pushpagiri and Kumaraparvatha mountain ranges. This is an ideal spot to take a breather and soak in the natural beauty surrounding you. However, the main attraction is the Mandalpatti Peak itself. The final ascent to the peak is a bit challenging, but the view from the top is nothing short of spectacular. Standing at an elevation of around 4,000 feet above sea level, you'll have an unobstructed 360-degree view of the Coorg valley below. The sea of rolling hills covered in lush greenery stretches as far as the eye can see, creating a visual feast that is worth every drop of sweat shed during the trek. We took a lot of pictures and then headed back to our Air Bnb.

As our trip came to an end, we couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia. Coorg had given us memories we would cherish forever.

Our trip to Coorg was not just a vacation; it was an unforgettable journey filled with adventure, natural beauty, and cherished moments with friends. Coorg, with its lush landscapes, aromatic coffee, and warm hospitality, had left an indelible mark on our hearts. It was a trip that recharged our souls, and we knew we would be back to explore more of this enchanting paradise in the future. If you're looking for an escape from the ordinary, I highly recommend packing your bags and embarking on a memorable adventure to Coorg with your friends. You won't be disappointed.
